The NYC Alliance Against Sexual Assault

Reports to: Executive Director

Salary: $95,000

Full/Part Time: Full Time

FLSA:  Exempt – Salaried

Organizational Overview:

Founded in 2000, the New York City Alliance Against Sexual Assault’s mission is to prevent sexual violence and reduce the harm it causes through education, research, and advocacy.

The Alliance works closely with the city’s rape crisis programs, victim service providers, and hospitals, District Attorney’s Offices, New York Police Department, court officials and city leaders to develop and implement best practices and policies, raise public awareness, and create sustainable change for survivors.  Through training, advocacy and research, the Alliance has been an active force in fighting for recognition of the magnitude of the problem of sexual violence in New York City (NYC).

Position Overview:

The Manager of Development and Communications works collaboratively with staff across the organization, the board of directors, and external partners to uplift the work of the Alliance and support the continued and expanded funding of our programs. This position will report directly to the executive director and will work closely with them and the board to execute the organization’s development and communications strategy. The ideal candidate for this role will be organized and driven, with a passion for the mission of the Alliance and willingness to employ their creativity in finding new ways to spotlight and support the Alliance’s work.

Specific responsibilities inherent to the position include: 

  • Collaborate with the executive director and board of directors to execute a plan to diversify funding sources (e.g., individual donors, foundation and corporate support, government support, and special events);
  • Proactively research funding opportunities, including foundation and corporate grants and prospective individual donors;
  • Project manage grant submission processes;
  • Lead the drafting and submission of grant proposals in collaboration with program staff;
  • Support in the timely submission of reports to funders;
  • Work with executive director and board-led fundraising committee on setting financial and donor goals;
  • Play a lead role in managing Alliance special events in collaboration with board and staff;
  • Track and input development data and generate reports for the executive director and board of directors;
  • Communicate regularly with donors, including the drafting of donor acknowledgement letters;
  • Develop and execute a communications and messaging plan to tell the story of the Alliance, highlight our programming, and uplift the work of our community partners via digital newsletters, digests, social media platforms.
  • Occasional Ad Hoc tasks

Required Qualifications/Skills:

  • 5+ years of development and communications experience in the non-profit field;
  • Record of fundraising success from diverse sources, including individual donors and government, corporate, and/or private foundations;
  • Strong writing skills, including the drafting of grants proposals, and demonstrated ability to craft a persuasive and impactful narrative;
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and creatively;
  • Strong partnership-building and event planning skills;
  • Experience with working with a board of directors and supporting their fundraising efforts;  
  • Strong computer and tech skills and experience working with (or desire to learn) Microsoft Office, Constant Contact, Canva, Salesforce and various social media platforms;
  • Dedication to using a social justice, anti-oppression, anti-racist framework to carry out work;

Preferred Qualifications/Skills:

  • Experience working in the field of sexual violence and/or gender-based violence;
  • Experience advocating for funding with city and/or state elected officials.

Compensation:

  • Compensation for this position is $95,000
  • As an employee of the Alliance, you will have access to a range of benefits including:

Working Environment:

The organization operates at a full-hybrid capacity. Staff will have access to flexible, hybrid work schedules, though in-person meetings throughout New York City will be required.
