  • People and Animals Living Safely (PALS) program: allows survivors to co-shelter
    with their pets.

  • Freedom House: crisis domestic violence shelter for disabled survivors, who can stay a maximum of 180 days. Has private units with accommodations for the disabled

  • BFL Apartments: permanent housing for 120 formerly homeless families and
    disabled survivors of domestic violence. Prospective tenants must have an approved 2010E application and be referred by the NYC Human Resources Administration

Eight domestic violence shelters provide short-term support for survivors. Shelter staff
help with safety planning, housing, employment, and legal assistance, as well as childcare.

Henry Street

Shelter consists of 13 apartments, with each apartment housing 2 families (total of 26
families). During their time-limited stay, families are educated on safety, non-violent
relationship choices, economic self-sufficiency, and permanent housing options.

  • Five crisis shelters: help survivors with their short-term needs. Crisis shelter
    residents can stay up to 6 months. During that time, residents get financial assistance, therapy, and assistance with finding permanent housing.

  • Sarah Burke House Transitional Shelter: houses 58 families for up to 8 months.
    Provides a shelter for families who have left a crisis shelter, yet are not ready to
    completely re-immerse themselves in society. Case management, counseling,
    recreation, and other support services available.
