Organizational Overview:

Founded in 2000, the New York City Alliance Against Sexual Assault’s mission is to prevent sexual violence and reduce the harm it causes through education, research and advocacy. The Alliance works closely with the city’s rape crisis programs and hospitals, District Attorney’s Offices, New York Police Department, courts and city leaders to develop and implement best practices and policies, raise public awareness, and create sustainable change for survivors. Through training, advocacy and research, the Alliance has been a strong advocate in fighting for recognition of the magnitude of the issue across the five boroughs and for improving the City’s response.


Position Overview:

The Part Time (20 hours/week) Legal Program Coordinator will be responsible for providing support to the Alliance Legal Service Program, which provides comprehensive, survivor-centered legal assistance, advocacy and on a wide range of legal issues to survivors citywide. The candidate will be a crucial member of the team and will participate in Alliance events, staff meetings and planning for growth.


Specific responsibilities inherent to the position include:

• Supporting the legal services team with managing client intake through various streams;

• Assisting with client paperwork;

• Maintaining departmental files and case management database;

• Drafting routine correspondence, legal documents and forms;

• Completing New York State Office of Victim Services (OVS) performance reports;

• Assisting clients with filing for compensation from the OVS;

• Filing legal documents with the Courts;

• General duties for the legal team including answering telephones, faxing, photocopying, mailing etc.

• Support with other office duties as needed.



• Bachelor’s degree with at least 1 year of prior administrative support experience required.

• Paralegal experience a plus.

• Background in non-profit setting strongly desired, as well as strong commitment to social justice

• Ability to treat confidential information appropriately, to prioritize multiple tasks and attention to detail are crucial.

• Excellent proofreading, editing, and grammatical skills.

• Proven ability to work in a diverse environment, as well as outstanding interpersonal, communications and organizational skills required.

• Capacity to constructively problem-solve and work in a stimulating and evolving environment.

• Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.

• Spanish speaking preferred
