Position Summary: 
We are seeking an entrepreneurial social worker (or similar) to plan and coordinate our mentoring program and other initiatives for leadership development and participant support. This position is responsible for creating and managing programs and systems to meet the emotional and social needs of our company members. 
 
Responsibilities: 
  • Cultivate and maintain a strong sense of the needs and interests of program participants in our programs across New York City. 
  • Work with the Director of Education to assess and improve leadership programs and support systems for our girls on an ongoing basis. 
  • Coordinate the Girls’ Leadership Council, a group of program participants who serve as peer representatives to our staff. 
  • Manage the Girl Advocates program, our adult volunteer mentor program. 
  • Serve as wellness point person: 
o Provide short-term crisis intervention and counseling as needed,
o Take on a small caseload of girls who could benefit from extra ongoing support, and 
o Draft protocol for responding to a variety of incidents/concerns (i.e. self harm, suicidal ideation, etc.), and work with staff to ensure proper implementation, providing periodic training as needed. 
  • Coordinate data collection across programs and work with the Director of Education to ensure ongoing program evaluation. 
  • Supervise the Social Work intern. 

Qualifications: 
  • A dedication to supporting young women and commitment to building a stronger 
  • Girl Be Heard community. 
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and present ideas with clarity, credibility, humility, and tact; lead with "the why" and incorporate vision into messaging; tailor messaging to audience and maintain professionalism in speaking and writing. 
  • Proven success operating in ambiguous and changing environments with the demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize projects; delegate tasks appropriately; manage progress against goals for self and others. 
  • Possesses openness, responsiveness, and understanding of others' perspectives with the demonstrated ability to maintain and build relationships. 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. 
  • Keen attention to and ability to track and manage details. 
  • Strong time management skills. 
  • Proficiency with databases, internet and presentation software. 
  • Masters of Social Work or equivalent. 
  • Minimum 3 years experience in the field or a related area. 
  • Experience working with youth required. 
  • Experience facilitating workshops preferred. 
  • Background in and/or love of theatre and the arts is a plus. 
  • Passion for social change and girls’ empowerment. 
  • Desire to work with a dynamic start-up to help shape the future activist-artists of tomorrow!

Girl Be Heard is a non-profit theatre company that brings global issues affecting girls center stage by empowering young women to tell their stories. 

Girl Be Heard creates cutting-edge, cause-related theatre – inspired, written and performed by girls (12-21) -- that is thought provoking and actionable. Our non-profit theatre company gives voice to issues that girls care about most (such as bullying, body image, and self harm). Our company also takes on global issues affecting girls worldwide such as sex trafficking, forced child marriage, and gender-based violence and regularly performs our acclaimed shows at the United Nations, TED conferences, and The White House. 
 
Our curriculum encourages young women to think critically about social justice, challenge stereotypes, foster friendships, and build tools for bringing about positive change in their communities. 
 
Deadline:
Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until the position is filled. 
 
Compensation:
Full‐time, commensurate with experience. Salary range $40-50k. Benefits include health insurance, paid vacation, personal days, and holidays.
