On December 15, 2011, the New York City Alliance Against Sexual Assault organized a special performance of James X, the critically acclaimed one-man show about the child abuse scandal in Ireland, at the Cultural Project. The play was directed by Gabriel Byrne (“In Treatment”), and written and performed by Gerard Mannix Flynn. A Panel Discussion afterwards focused on how to respond to and prevent child sexual abuse at large, respected institutions, followed by a Q&A session with the audience. 
The panelists were:
  • Susan Xenarios, Director, St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Crime Victims Treatment Center;
  • NYS Senator Thomas Duane;
  • Karen Baker, Director of the National Sexual Violence Resource Center;
  • Robert Hettleman, Chief of the Child Abuse Unit, The New York County District Attorney’s Office;
  • Billye Jones Mulraine, Assistant Executive Director of Clinical Services, Kingsbridge Heights Community Center (KHCC) Child Sexual Abuse Treatment and Prevention Program Child Sexual Abuse Treatment and Prevention Program;
  • Gerard Mannix Flynn, James X playwright and actor       
Alliance Executive Director Mary Haviland gave the closing remarks, and presented Mr. Flynn and Mr. Byrne with the Alliance’s “Artistic Ally” Certificates of Recognition.
