DENIM DAY NYC 2011 A RESOUNDING SUCCESS!!

Lead agencies Start Strong Bronx and the New York City Alliance Against Sexual Assault, in partnership with the Center Against Domestic Violence, Children’s Aid Society, Day One, Hollaback, Joyful Heart Foundation, Leave Out The Violence-US, Men Can Stop Rape, Safe Horizon, SAFER (Students Active For Ending Rape), Sanctuary for Families, STEPS To End Family Violence, Joe Torre Safe at Home Foundation, and Violence Intervention Program, provided 2011 Denim Day NYC programs and activities for thousands of youth in all five boroughs.
 

We wish to thank Borough Presidents Scott Stringer and Marty Markowitz and Councilmember Julissa Ferreras for taking a leadership role in 2011 Denim Day NYC. Their presence at the April 26th kick -off press conference on the steps of City Hall made an important statement about the need to address teen dating and sexual violence in New York City.  We are grateful for their stirring remarks and year-round support.

The events at the Borough President Offices in Brooklyn, Bronx, Manhattan, and Queens were an important way to raise the awareness of community members and individuals in each city borough. We would like to especially thank Hilary Nemchik, External Affairs Liaison & Chair of the Domestic Violence Task Force, Office of Manhattan Borough President Scott M. Stringer, Cathy Moore, Queens Borough President's Task Force on Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, Child Maltreatment, and Elder Abuse, Xamayla Rose-Persadi, Policy Analyst, Office of the Brooklyn Borough President and Melissa Cebollero, Director of Health and Human Services at the Bronx Borough President's Office. Without their hard work and support, these events would never have happened. We also want to thank Staten Island Borough President James Molinaro for issuing a letter of support that was read at the kick-off press conference.
